Dowry Coin

Dowry Coin

DOWRY COIN

A true antique - over 100 years old! This genuine Indian Rupee coin was minted in 1904. In those days, the British ruled India. Edward VII was King and Emperor. The colony was ruled by British officials and the British East Indi Company. Indian ladies, at that time, were given coins to wear as part of their wedding dowries. This coin was given a metal cap, so that it could be attached to a wedding necklace. Ladies in India wore heavy necklaces with coins dangling from them. In many remote areas, they still wear them today. Here's your chance to own a piece of history! Chain not included. Please note: This Coin is British Pound Sterling, but the added cap is not. It is probably 80% Silver and about 20% nickel, but we have no exact knowlege of the metal content used in the cap.
