These beads have quite a story! The blue beads are authentic Turquoise, but it's the red beads that are so unique. They are glass, probably made in Manchester, England in the 1700s for the East India Trading Company. When the British first came into India beads like these, and other goods, were traded for Indian spices. These beads were often traded further, from the cities up into the mountains as peoples' needs for certain goods changed. We bought these beads in the rural mountains of Nepal. The beads tend to be irregular in shape , having been worn down with age and travel. Each necklace is unique!
